Located within the sprawling Ol Pejeta Conservancy, one of Kenya’s most noteworthy conservancies and home to the ‘Big Five’ (elephant, rhino, lion, buffalo and leopard), Sweetwaters Serena Camp offers a holiday experience unlike any other.

LOCATION

 

Sweetwaters Tented Camp is about 205km from Nairobi.

3 Hr Drive form Nairobi by road, via A2.

ROOMS

These spacious tents combine the traditional ambiance of a safari camp with the comforts of home. They offer either a king bed or two twin beds and views of the water hole; amenities include a bathroom with a one-hand washbasin, a WC and a shower with a shower curtain.

Boasting views of Mount Kenya, the new Morani Wing features 17 deluxe double, twin and triple tents, one of which is specially adapted for guests with mobility concerns. Bathrooms include a two-hand washbasin, a WC and a shower with a glass door.

DINING AND WINING

THE RHINO ROOM

 

Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the Rhino Room welcomes you with flavorful, locally sourced fare. Start your morning with our plentiful buffet-style breakfast, which includes a range of global dishes; you may also order a full English Breakfast, in keeping with safari tradition. Lunch is also served as a buffet, with fresh meats, dairy items and produce; vegetarian options are always available.

 

The restaurant’s table d’hôte dinner menus feature a salad buffet, a soup, an entrée, dessert, cheese and biscuits and fine Kenyan tea or coffee. Much of our cuisine is sourced directly from the communities that surround the reserve. Complement your meal with a glass of wine or beer, a fresh-squeezed fruit juice or an herbal infusion.

THE WATER HOLE BAR

 

Settle in beside a roaring fire and toast a successful day with a cold local beer or a glass of wine or spirits. Open 24 hours a day, our warm and inviting bar showcases stunning views of the water, enabling you to gaze out at the abundant wildlife that surrounds us while you enjoy your drink.

ACTIVITIES

SAFARI IN OL PEJETA CONSERVANCY

Enjoy a plethora of experiences and activities during your visit to Sweetwaters Serena Camp. Our unmatched location within the Ol Pejeta Conservancy enables you to take part in everything from game drives and lion tracking to scenic bird walks along the river.

LION TRACKING

A unique opportunity to track and learn about the lions of Ol Pejeta and contribute towards their conservation. Guests can participate in helping us to gather vital research information needed to monitor the collared lions. In the event that the collared lions are inaccessible, other lion sightings are reported and the same identifying features such as whisker spots, ear tears and nose spotting recorded. It is a great way to learn about lions and all of the information gathered is passed on to the Ol Pejeta Ecological Monitoring Department.

VISIT TO RHINO INFOMATION CENTRE

Take a morning or an evening ride within the 600-acre Endangered Species Enclosure, accompanied by knowledgeable staff on Ol Pejeta’s safari horses. These rides will take you on a journey through a predator-free area set aside by Ol Pejeta for the recovery of the northern white rhinoceros. As well as meeting the last three remaining northern white rhinos on the planet, you will ride through herds of the highly endangered Gravy’s zebra and Jackson’s hartebeest. You will also encounter many other species including southern white rhinos and a myriad of plains game.

The rides will only be open to experienced riders and some proof of riding ability will be required at point of booking; clients judged to be of insufficient riding ability will not be permitted to undertake this activity.

GUIDED BUSH WALK

The bush walk gives visitors the opportunity to learn about game trails and spoor identification as well as the insects, birds and smaller mammals of Ol Pejeta. The walk is not designed to be strenuous however a reasonable level of fitness is required, as you can expect to be walking for around two hours.

VISIT TO JANE GOODWILL CHIMPANZEE SANCUARY

A unique opportunity to learn more about the day-to-day care of the chimpanzees in our care.
Gain exclusive access to feeding time and the enrichment activities within their enclosures. Chimpanzees are not indigenous to Kenya. One can also adopt a chimp.
