GOMBE STREAM NATIONAL PARK

The 52 sq. km Gombe Stream National Park was established in 1968, having been upgraded from its game reserve status. Tanzania's smallest national park, it was created mainly to protect the area's endangered Chimpanzee population. It is the location of the late Jane Goodall's research station. In addition to the chimps, the park is home to the Red and the Black & White Colobus monkeys, Yellow baboons, Sykes' Monkeys and bush babies. There are several buffalo, waterbuck, bushbuck and the occasional leopard.
